September Parent Cue

This month your 1st-5th grader is learning all about the hope we find in the Resurrection of Jesus. The basic truth for the month is Jesus is my savior and wants to have a relationship with me. Ask them what they’ve learned in class, memorize the Bible verse with them, and watch the story using the Parent Cue App.

Bible teaching by Pastor Lee Stephenson

What connections do you have with the Catholic Church? How has Catholicism influenced (good and bad) your life? Your view of God? Your view of church?

Read Ephesians 2:8-9. Share a time when you received grace from another person. It could be from a friend, a parent, teacher, boss or sibling. How did that event impact your life?

Read Romans 3:19-20. What do these verses say about our ability to earn God’s favor? Read Galatians 3:10-12. According to these verses, what is the danger of relying on our performance to earn God’s favor? Read Galatians 3:23-25. Before Jesus died on the cross, what was the role of rules (the law)?

Read Colossians 2:20-23. Why do we like rules? In the Catholic tradition, there are a number of acts that are seen as dispensaries of grace called sacraments (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders and Matrimony). What danger do we face when we rely on rituals and routines to give us confidence that our faith is secure? Read 1 John 5:11-13. What is the basis for having eternal life? How does this differ from Catholicism?

Romans 5:1-2 and Romans 8:1, 32-34. What do these verses say about our standing with God? In spite of what scripture says, why do we still doubt that what Jesus has done is enough? How does that play out in our faith?

Read Galatians 2:19-21. What’s the difference between rules and relationship? Between discipline and devotion? What does trusting in God’s grace rather than our works look like in daily life?
